The Mayor of Christchurch, Cllr David Flagg, played host to Mayors, Chairmen and their escorts from neighbouring local authorities to show them two sides of the Borough: the business side and the tourism side. Dignitaries from ten other authorities were first taken to Bournemouth Airport, which is in the Borough of Christchurch, to hear from the Managing Director, Rob Goldsmith, and Operations Director, Paul Knight, about the progress being made on the redevelopments there and how the expansion will create 1,190 full-time jobs. They then visited one of the airport business parks, Aviation Park West, to hear from Estates Manager, Harvey Greenman, about the expansion there before getting a chance to see up close a Sea Vixen at the De Havilland hanger. Their next port of call showed them more of the tourism side of Christchurch when they paid a visit to Adventure Wonderland to hear how the attraction had grown and changed as it developed. Their final visit was to the Electricity Museum in Bargates, one of the hidden gems of Christchurch which houses, amongst many other exhibits, the last tram used in Bournemouth. Following the visit, the Mayor said: “We had an excellent day and it was good for us to be able to show our neighbours some of the things which are on their doorstep they may not have been aware of, both from a business point of view as well as tourism.” |
