Christchurch Food & Wine Festival committee members are delighted to have won the Creative Project of the Year Award at the 2010 Dorset Business Awards presented at the Lighthouse in Poole. The Festival was up against stiff competition from projects and organisations across the county but came through to beat fellow finalists ‘Bourne Again’ by ThinkRLA (about the new terminal at Bournemouth Airport) and the Bournemouth Sevens Festival by Diamond Sports Events. The comments from the panel of judges included: “… the Festival organisers apply dedication, determination and a passion to continuously adapt and evolve. The Christchurch Food and Wine Festival has undoubtedly helped to create the climate in which many entrepreneurial activities have flourished, and to establish Christchurch as a credible gourmet centre.” Receiving the award, Mary Reader, President of the Food & Wine Festival, said: “I’m delighted that the Food Festival has been acknowledged by Dorset Chamber of Commerce as having made a real difference to the economic sustainability of the town. “We rely heavily on tourism and the Festival has helped in so many ways to recognise Christchurch as not only a great place to stay but as a centre of gourmet excellence. “So many people have helped us over the years by volunteering their time and this is a great example of the community working together. I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has helped us to win this fantastic award." Preparations are already under way for next year’s Festival that will take place from Friday 6 May to Friday 13 May. Some new initiatives are being planned and celebrity chefs Nick Nairn, Peter Gordon and Rose Elliot are already booked to join the Festival’s patron Lesley Waters for cookery demonstrations. |
