5th Annual Summer Solstice Run to Take Place on 18th June supported by Nat West

The Wessex Autistic Society will be hosting their 5th annual Summer Solstice Run on 18th June marking the longest day of the year. Being held at Moors Valley Country Park the event will commence at 7pm come rain or shine and there will be both an 8k course for serious runners and a 2k fun run / walk for all the family to get involved. This annual event is supported by Nat West and has been a hit with hundreds of runners from across the south turning out for the past 5 years.

Previous events have attracted 100’s of runners and helped raise £1000’s for the local voluntary organisation. Every year more and more loyal supporters turn out to the run all in aid of The Wessex Autistic Society. This year there will be an additional 2k run for all the family, encouraging everyone to get involved.

There will be a tropical theme on the evening with flower garlands for all finishers as well as the usual medal and chocolate. Runners are encouraged to wear their most flamboyant Hawaiian outfits to add Summer cheer to the occasion. Pre entry for the 10k race will cost £8 for UKA members and £10 for non members. The 2k run will cost £3 for UKA members or £5 for non members. Alternatively, enter a team for £10 per person (min 4 per team) with new team prizes to be won! Entry forms are available via www.twas.org.uk or www.runnersworld.co.uk. All proceeds will go to the charity to continue their portfolio of services to help local people with autism and their families.

Sarah Bohn, Community and Events Fundraiser comments, “We are really excited to have reached our 5th anniversary milestone and want to celebrate this with our best Summer Solstice run yet. We are encouraging people of all ages and fitness levels to use their feet to fundraise which is why we have added a 2k course to encourage even more people to take part. We are really looking forward to a fun event and hope the Hawaiian theme will make this a really fun and special occasion.”
