Christchurch Sports Achievement Awards 
The annual Christchurch and District Sports Council Sports Achievement Awards, held at Christchurch Civic Offices, celebrated the success of some of the brightest young sports people in Christchurch. This year 27 awards were handed out by the Mayor of Christchurch, Cllr Nick Geary, for success in rowing, sailing, rugby, judo, shooting and swimming. 15 bronze awards were given for success in regional sporting competitions with three silver awards for national success.
Gold awards went to Becky Joakim and Lauren Fry for their continued progress in international sailing, and to Craig Lord for his achievements in Christchurch Gun Club. Four dedication to sport awards were given this year, representing the high levels of commitment and enthusiasm for sport in the borough. These awards went to Peter Staddon, Dan Davies, Pete Bell and Chantelle McClure to commend their grand efforts for Christchurch’s Rowing and Lifesaving Clubs, Highcliffe Sailing Club and Twynham School.
In a new category this year Christchurch Rowing Club won the title of Community Club of the Year for their efforts to support community events and forums.
The evening will be followed shortly by two further awards ceremonies to commend the Seagulls Swimming Club and Burton Youth Football Club on their achievements this year. On presenting the awards, the Mayor said: “We’re very proud to have so many sportsmen and women who have reached such high levels of success. “I am confident that the impressive level of commitment and achievement amongst young people within Christchurch will continue and grow in 2011.”
