England’s 1966 World Cup hero, Sir Geoff Hurst, is coming to Christchurch to officially open the synthetic turf football pitches and the BMX track at Two Riversmeet Leisure Complex.

The opening ceremony forms part of a full day of sporting activity at the Complex on Sunday 18 April 2010 from 9.45am to 4pm, with the ceremony taking place at 10am.

Sir Geoff, still the only man to score a hat-trick at a World Cup final, will be on hand to talk to fans and sign autographs. Later in the day Adam Lallana, a Southampton FC and England under 21 star, will also be along to lend his support to the day.

The event will include activities such as Beat the Keeper, Keepie-up King, Cross Bar Challenge as well as an Under 15s’ Football Tournament. Both children and adults are welcome take part in the first three activities. All they are asked to do is make a donation to the chosen charity of the day, Sport Relief.

There will also be a raffle to win some exciting prizes such as a John Terry signed England shirt, a framed and signed photograph of Sir Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters, a football signed by Sir Geoff Hurst, a Southampton FC shirt and football signed by Adam Lallana, two tickets to an AFC Bournemouth match next season, and many more. Raffle tickets will cost £1 each with all proceeds going to Sport Relief.

Two Riversmeet General Manager, Paul Rutter, commented: "We are extremely honoured that England footballing legend Sir Geoff Hurst has agreed to officially open our 3G Synthetic Turf Football Pitches. Our users constantly praise the high standard and quality of these two exceptional pitches. With Southampton FC and England U21 star, Adam Lallana also making an appearance on the day it will certainly be one to remember."

Referring to the BMX track, Paul added: "The huge number of young people from the local community benefiting from this facility certainly does justify the excellent decision to invest in such a high standard track."
