Music from the Seventies and Eighties
The Bournemouth & District Concert Band has partnered with The Wessex Autistic Society for a night of musical entertainment at the Allendale Centre, Wimborne on Friday 21st May. The lively spring concert begins at 7.45pm, with a fully licensed bar opening from 7.30pm. Sarah Bohn, Community and Events Fundraiser comments; “There are great prizes to be won in the charity raffle, including various tickets for popular local attractions. Entry is just £5 (£3 concessions) and anyone interested in attending can collect tickets from our head office; Bargates Court, 22 Bargates, Chrsitchurch, Dorset, BH23 1QL. We would be delighted if you could join us and help raise vital funds for our Charity whilst enjoying a pleasant musical evening.” Local charity, the Wessex Autistic Society was formed 41 years ago by a group of parents of children with autism. It is a voluntary organisation, which aims to ensure that all people with autism and related conditions, and their carers, in the Wessex region, have access to appropriate education, care, support, and development services. The Society covers Dorset, Somerset, West Hampshire and Wiltshire. Portfield School is run by the Society and currently educates 60 pupils aged 3-18 and tailors the educational curriculum according to each pupils needs, focusing on individuals’ strengths as well as addressing the learning disabilities associated with autism. Portfield was awarded the ‘OFSTED Outstanding’ Logo as a result of its 2007/08 inspection. The Society is committed to ensuring that people with autism should enjoy the same rights and privileges as the rest of the population, including the right to accessible and suitable activities. |
