New facilities at Two Riversmeet Leisure Complex

New Facilities at Two Riversmeet Leisure Complex

Brand new facilities being completed at Two Riversmeet Leisure Complex in Christchurch will give football players and BMX enthusiasts cause to celebrate this autumn.

Late September sees the opening of two state-of-the-art Synthetic Turf Pitches (STPs) on the old arena site along with a brand new BMX track to add to the leisure facilities already on offer at the Complex including the leisure centre, a golf course and a wheel park..

In addition to this, the main car park to the leisure complex is undergoing a complete redesign and refurbishment in phases to give the whole site a major upgrade. The car park work will be completed in November. The whole programme of works is costing around £850,000.

The two new seven-a-side football pitches are independently enclosed and feature the very finest third generation synthetic turf.

Paul Rutter, General Manager of Two Riversmeet, said: “Most people associate STPs with the hard sand-filled pitches that were first introduced in the 1980s. These new pitches are produced from soft, non abrasive, TigerTurf fibres filled with rubber particles designed to replicate grass in its truest form with the same give and bounce.

“Players will be able to play in normal football boots and will not suffer nasty abrasions usually associated with sand-filled artificial pitches.”

The flood-lit pitches will be available for play all year round from 9am to 10.30pm Monday to Thursday and until 9.30pm Friday to Sunday. Contract bookings are available for the season and one-off bookings will also be taken. Two Riversmeet will organise leagues and a junior coaching academy will start next January. The facilities are also ideal for teams or businesses wishing to run their own tournaments.

The BMX track behind the football pitches is a free facility which will also be open from late September and flood-lit until late evening. It has been designed in consultation with local BMX enthusiasts and is being built by Steve Jenks, a BMX track specialist with over 20 years’ experience.
