Two beach cleans in Christchurch need volunteers

Volunteers to help keep Christchurch beaches clean and tidy are needed at two beach cleans in Christchurch.

The first is on Monday 14 September at 1pm at Mudeford Quay. The litter pick will concentrate on the ‘green’ beach from Bure Bridge to the RNLI lifeboat station at the Quay.

Meet at the picnic area near Bure Bridge (the small bridge over the stream as you enter Mudeford Quay from the road).

The second is on Sunday 20 September at 10.30am on Friars Cliff beach meeting on the wave wall below Steamer Point car park. Litter-pickers and black plastic sacks will be provided. This will be part of the national Beachwatch weekend organised by the Marine Conservation Society

The MCS Beachwatch Big Weekend litter survey and clean-up is a national event that has taken place on the third weekend of September every year since 1993. The data collected from the surveys is used by MCS to campaign on some of the most common and harmful types of beach litter.

From the surveys carried out across the UK MCS has found that the average density of litter on our beaches has increased by 110 per cent since 1994 and the density of plastic found on beaches is at the highest level ever.
MCS Beachwatch Big Weekend is the flagship event of the Adopt-a-Beach project. More information is available at www.adoptabeach.org.uk
