CCC Poets will be broadcasting on Hope Radio 90.1 FM on Friday 25th June. Listen out between 10.10 and 11.00am to hear members of the group interviewed and to also to hear some readings.
The group has three main purposes: • to enjoy writing poetry, with reference to members’ own work as well as other poetry • to promote the enjoyment of poetry in the local community • to produce a collection of poetry for display and/or performance at the annual Christchurch Community Celebration Group size is restricted to 8 members so that we always have sufficient time and space for everyone to speak; this also helps to maintain an atmosphere in which all are comfortable to share their work, and meets one morning per fortnight for 2 hours. Its success during its first year is a result of members’ commitment to full, supportive participation. Members’ interests and experience are diverse, and this contributes to the group’s creativity. Specific activities vary according to the group’s needs and wishes and will include some or all of the following: • group and individual poetry exercises • sharing information about specific aspects of poetry and poetic devices • discussion of notes or completed poems • developing skills e.g. in observation • finding inspiration to write • helping members to find the focus they need in order to write their poem • producing some collaborative work There is a small charge for the year, which is not a fee, but intended to cover costs such as paper, print cartridges and occasionally postage. Members do not need to be published and/or experienced poets! The only requirements are the need to: • enjoy reading poetry • be willing to have a go at writing poetry • share the poetry you write with the group • contribute to maintaining the safe, comfortable ethos of the group • listen to supportive feedback about your poetry • contribute to supportive feedback about other group members’ poetry • have a sense of humour There are only one or two places for when sessions resume in September.
