Two local charities have benefited to the tune of £1400 each from a charity dinner held as part of the Christchurch Food & Wine Festival. The event, which took place at The Lord Bute hotel and was sponsored by Poole Audi, raised funds for Julia’s House children’s hospice and Christchurch Food Festival Education Trust. A raffle and an auction contributed towards the £2,800 total achieved. Cheques were presented to the two charities by the Food Festival’s chairman, Tim Lloyd.
Di Pestell, community fundraiser for Julia’s House, said: “Many thanks to the Festival Committee and Poole Audi for nominating Julia’s House as a beneficiary of the event at the Lord Bute. With no regular statutory funding, it is only with the help of the Dorset community that Julia’s House is able to continue to support Dorset’s life-limited children and their families.”
Mary Reader, trustee of the Food Festival Education Trust, added: “We’re very grateful to everyone who came along to the charity dinner and who contributed so much. The donation will enable us to continue our work to get people, particularly young people, to develop cookery skills and find out more about healthy eating at a time when other funding streams are drying up.”
