Christchurch residents who have some spare time and who feel they would like to help in their local community are invited to find out more on Make a Difference Day on Saturday 31 October.

Members of Christchurch Volunteer Service will be on hand at Christchurch Baptist Church in Bargates from 10am to 1pm to welcome existing volunteers as well as anyone else who might like to become a volunteer. They are invited to have tea and cake and find out how volunteering can benefit the community as well as the volunteers themselves.

Rob Griffith, Volunteer Co-ordinator at Christchurch Community Partnership, said: “People may not be aware of the sort of opportunities which are available to them as volunteers. We have a range of organisations that need volunteers to help them as well as a range of skills which are required.

“People who have retired may find that the skills they used in their working life could come in useful now in a volunteering capacity – everything from computer skills to decorating. And people who have been made redundant or who find themselves currently without paid employment can help keep their CVs up-to-date by including volunteering which potential future employers will find interesting.

”By helping out in their local community many people find that they are also helping themselves by keeping busy and doing something worthwhile.”

Anyone wishing to volunteer who is not able to attend on 31 October can contact Rob Griffith, on 07907 868377 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
