A project to involve Christchurch people in more physical activity, as well as healthy eating, has been launched. The Fit Christchurch project was kicked off by the Mayor, Cllr David Flagg at Two Riversmeet Leisure Centre during a day of activities which included golfing, trampolining, boxing and rowing, as well as a guided health walk by Christchurch Strollers. Dance group Pure Funk gave an impressive and energetic demonstration of ways they keep young people fit while having fun and the Council’s Play Rangers gave people the opportunity to test their reflexes with the NEOS machine. Members of a number of sports clubs were on hand to encourage people to join up and representatives from Smoke Stop, Healthy Living Wessex and the Food Festival Education Trust were amongst the organisations there to promote a healthier lifestyle. On launching the project, the Mayor said: “I am delighted to see such a wide range of organisations working together to create opportunities for everyone in Christchurch to improve their health through physical as well as mental activity, diet and a better understanding of themselves. “ The Mayor also made a commitment to improve his own level of fitness during the project. A quiz, which required participants to visit a number of stands to get the answers, was won by Lauren Staniford who received a bicycle of her choice from Cycle Experience. Second prize of six months’ membership of Two Riversmeet was won by Joanne Hearn, while Glenn Moore got third prize of four ski lessons at Snowtrax. |
