Two Meritorious Awards were presented at a recent full Council meeting. The first award went to Mrs Mary Reader, the President of Christchurch Food & Wine Festival, in recognition of her hard work and dedication to the Festival and her promotion of Christchurch as a good food destination. The Food & Wine Festival, now in its 10th year, was Mary’s idea as a celebration of the Millennium in 2000 and it has grown to become one of the most respected food festivals in the country. The second Meritorious Award was presented to the Milton family for their support of the Christchurch Scout and Guide Band. Roger Milton first became involved with the Band in 1976 and became Bandmaster in 1983. Roger has been supported by his wife Maureen and daughter Alison who help at every rehearsal and event. The Band has entered many competitions successfully and is present whenever needed at all Scout and Guide events. The Milton family have encouraged many young people to enjoy music in addition to their Scouting and Guiding. Inspector Andy Earley from Christchurch Police was presented with the Dorset Police Diversity in the Community Award which he won in partnership with the Council’s Community Team Leader, Natalie Minns, who was not present as she had given birth to a daughter just days before! Inspector Earley and Natalie received the Award for their partnership work in developing Neighbourhood Management in Christchurch. The final award of the evening was a Certificate presented to Chris Wiltshire, the Mayor’s Chauffeur, in recognition of his unrelenting commitment to his duties over the last 25 years. |
