A number of agencies responsible for keeping Christchurch safe have held a successful series of roadshows around the Borough during Not in My Neighbourhood Week. Partners involved in the initiative included Christchurch Police, Christchurch Borough Council, Christchurch Homewatch, Dorset Fire & Rescue, Twynham Housing Association, Dorset Trading Standards, Burton Parish Council and Christchurch Harbour Watch. People attending the roadshows were able to discuss any concerns they may have and get a lot of useful advice on keeping themselves and their homes safe. One of the highlights of the week was a demonstration involving the police, fire and rescue service and ambulance service dealing with a road crash where one of the casualties was not able to get out of a car. The fire and rescue service had to first immobilise the car before cutting away the roof and door to free the victim. Young people from local schools were invited to attend the demonstration. Cllr Ray Nottage, portfolio holder for a Safe and Healthy Community at Christchurch Council, said: “The week was a great success for Christchurch and illustrated how partnership working amongst all safety agencies can benefit our communities. “It also made residents understand how they can join in and be partners in the overall objective of making Christchurch an even better and safer place to live. Congratulations to all those involved and a special thanks to all the voluntary agencies like Christchurch Homewatch who contributed their time and effort for the benefit of our community.” Not In My Neighbourhood Week is a Home Office initiative which encourages local communities to get together to engage with the police and local agencies and play their part in tackling crime and anti-social behaviour. |
