Two new Freemen admitted to the Borough

At an extraordinary meeting of Christchurch Council, held after the full Council meeting, two new Freemen were admitted to the Borough.

Cllr John Lofts was given the freedom of the Borough in recognition of his long and outstanding service as a councillor since 1987. During this period Cllr Lofts served as Mayor in 1998/99 and is currently Deputy Leader of the Council. He has chaired many committees during his time as a councillor, including General Purposes, Housing, Environment & Leisure and Community Services.

Freedom of the Borough was also conferred on Mr Michael Reid MBE in recognition of his exceptional contribution to the business community and economy of Christchurch as Chairman of John Reid and Sons Ltd. This Christchurch-based company, which makes every form of structural steelwork from light architectural steel to the heaviest industrial plant, is internationally renowned and was recently awarded its fourth Queen’s Award for Enterprise.
