Volunteer with TWAS
Jack Bowyer volunteers for The Wessex Autistic Society

Far from resting on his laurels, to ensure a productive year, Jack banned himself from game consoles and is putting his time to good use by studying for 2 additional A’Levels in Physics and Maths to complement the 2A’s and B already achieved in Biology, Chemistry and English.

Jack comments, “I wanted to take a year out and experience things I wouldn’t have the opportunity to once I am at medical school. The thought of learning new skills whilst doing something for others really appealed to me. My Mum’s friend, who is a Support Worker at the charity, knew I wanted to volunteer and recommended the Society to me. I got in touch and now I help out in the Fundraising team two mornings a week and really enjoy it.”

Living with his parents and 2 younger siblings in Charminster, Jack is soon to embark on a ten week TEFL course which will allow him to travel the world and teach English as a foreign language. Being fluent in Turkish, Jack is keen to use his dual citizenship to experience his mother’s culture and embark on another new adventure before he begins a 7 year medical degree at Kings College, London.

Louise Trott, Community and Events Fundraiser comments, “We were delighted to be approached by Jack and have ensured he gets involved in all elements of our Fundraising work from organising databases to being hands on at our events. We try very hard to make Jack’s experience with us varied and as helpful to him as he is to us. We will certainly be sorry to see Jack go but would encourage anyone thinking of volunteering to get in touch. We are certainly never short of things for volunteers to do and would welcome as little or as much time as a volunteer has available.”

*Younger people aged 16 – 24 are still more likely to be involved in informal volunteering than any other age group, but the positive effects of volunteering are the same for us all, from helping to stave off depression to helping to lose weight!* So if you have the heart to get involved and would like to Volunteer for the Society please get in touch with Louise Trott on 01202 703584 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
