Young Christchurch carers were treated to an activity day at Two Riversmeet Leisure Centre following an invitation from the Mayor of Christchurch, Cllr David Flagg, and Paul Rutter, manager of the Leisure Centre Ten young people spent the afternoon involved in a number of activities including trampolining, hockey, badminton and a session in the swimming pool. The Mayor said: “Being a carer is a very onerous responsibility for children of any age. Giving them this activity day has been an excellent opportunity for the Council to offer them our support in the form of facilities they may not get a chance to use because of their duties.” Liz Day, Young Carers Support Officer at Dorset County Council, who accompanied the young people, said: “The young carers had a wonderful time and the project is really grateful to Ash and Cheryl at Two Riversmeet and manager Paul Rutter for their careful organisation of activities to include everyone. The young people were very excited to be able to meet the Mayor who particularly enjoyed the trampoline! The afternoon gave the young carers much needed time out for themselves." |
